Authentication

With the transition from phone-based fax to wireless and Internet fax, senders have had less assurance their messages are received intact by the intended receiver. Information security concerns have moved to the forefront of public concern, thus making message authentication requirements of higher priority. Xerox authentication technology provides assurance for Internet and wireless communications users that their messages are received in an unaltered format from a known sender.

Technology Description

Xerox has developed a means to include a signature within the normal constructs of common raster image formats used for fax and other image-based communications. The encoded signature can be used to provide a high level of confidence that the image was not altered during transmission and that the individual who claims authorship is in fact the person that sent it.

Messaging applications involve creation, storage, exchange, and management of messages over a communications network. These applications require assurance that messages arrive with high confidence of correct content and known origin. Xerox authentication technology is also designed to provide additional features often sought from messaging applications, such as fax, include sender authentication, notification (to the sender) of receipt, and court-accepted receipt time stamps.

Applications

Xerox Authentication technology is well suited for:
  • Unified communications service providers
  • Wireless & wireline client providers
  • Connectivity infrastructure providers
  • Messaging services infrastructure providers

Benefits

  • Achieves the same level of perceived integrity for internet fax that phone fax receive today
  • Enables receiver acknowledgement / notification to sender that the message was received intact and unaltered
  • Provides transparent authentication between sender and recipient
  • No productivity impact
